Guided Fishing
Year-Round Walleye & Trout Fishing on Saganaga Lake
Joel “Joey” Robbins with North Star Angling
“I’ve lived along the Gunflint Trail for 9 years and have been guiding year-round for 6 years now. Im originally from Hutchinson Mn. Where I grew up fishing for walleye, bass, pike, and panfish. My love for the outdoors extends beyond fishing, to include hiking, canoeing, camping, snowmobiling, and hunting.
My favorite species of fish to chase is Lake Trout, but am well versed in all species.
I’m open to motor boat or canoe fishing.
I do most of my guiding from a 16ft boat with a 25 hp motor on Saganaga Lake within the BWCAW.
Whether it’s a relaxing hike through the woods, a morning sunrise/sunset paddle, or catching some fish, it’d be my pleasure to make your experience into lifelong memories!”

Self-Guided Fishing
Staying as Sag Lodge makes fishing on Saganaga Lake – home to Minnesota’s record walleye lake – a breeze. As an overnight lodge guest, you have access to an exempt motor permit to fish Sag for the duration of your stay. If you opt to bring your own boat, be sure it meets 25 h.p. motor restrictions. We are located right next to the county public landing, launching your own boat is easy (public lot parking is $5 per day). You may also opt to rent a boat from a neighboring resort and your exempt permit may be used on their watercraft. Fish cleaning tables are available on the lake shore.
During the winter months, opt to bring your ice fishing gear up and have a warm and cozy home base!
